Three years ago, we (Dianne, Mark and Robb) were busy living life. We were at a place in our careers that most people would say, “you’re in your sweet spot, your happy place—you’re successful.”
But there was something… not something missing but something else.
Mark and Robb recognized it first. They had been friends for a few years, and both had similar interests in leadership and coaching. They would often get together and dream, “if only, we’d could do for young leaders what we wish we’d had when we were young—someone who allowed and encouraged us to learn from “their” bloody knees, rather continually traveling around the experience mountain, year after year!”
These conversations continued and in early 2019, Mark and Robb invited four young leaders to join them for four months of leader development and coaching. They came together once a month for a group session, plus a one-on-one coaching session each month with either Mark or Robb. It was a turning point for Mark, Robb and their four leaders.
At that time, it didn’t have a name but LEADERSHIPTEN was born.
Fueled from the growth they had seen with their first group, Mark and Robb were ready to develop some structure and move forward with their dream. But there was a gap. Robb had a conversation with his pastor, and he recommended Dianne. A meeting was organized for the three of us to get together. On that hot, July afternoon, we really had no idea the amazing blend of personalities, talent and experiences God was forming into a team.
So back to the question. Why did we add something else to our already full lives? Why did we pivot?
- A passion to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. Passion is one of the most energizing emotions. For many leaders we see a mountain, we work to conquer the mountain and then when we reached a point of success, we can get restless. When we watch young leaders receive and then implement the concepts LEADERSHIPTEN feels so strongly about, it continually fuels that fire to “do it again.” Quick assessment: Where are you right now on the passion scale for your current role?
- A strong belief this was part of God’s purpose for our lives. We believe God has a unique purpose and plan for each of our lives and our greatest desire is to be in the center of that plan. Quick assessment: Do you feel you are living out your purpose?
- The desire to leave a legacy. We are at the season of life where the question, “did I make a difference during my time on this earth?” walks through our mind and stops for a visit. Passing the knowledge, skills and abilities we’ve gathered throughout our lives is part of our “finishing well” life plan. Quick assessment: Do you know what you want your legacy to this world to be?
One of LEADERSHIPTEN’S first priorities is to equip leaders to fully grasp the concept of self-leadership. A leader who leads themselves well, asks these questions often, and makes adjustments when the answers do not align with the vision for their life.
