10 Reasons Why We Decided on the name LEADERSHIPTEN

To use a classic Jim Collins phrase, after we got the right people on the bus (see previous post) it was time to put the “hedgehog principle” in place.

The Hedgehog Concept is developed in the book Good to Great. A simple, crystalline concept that flows from deep understanding about the intersection of three circles: 1) what you are deeply passionate about, 2) what you can be the best in the world at, and 3) what best drives your economic or resource engine. Transformations from good to great come about by a series of good decisions made consistently with a Hedgehog Concept, supremely well executed, accumulating one upon another, over a long period of time.

The team decided to take the rest of 2019 to think through these three circles. Although, at that time we had no plans for this effort to become a resource engine. We thought it was all about offering our passion to up and coming leaders not growing a business.

Our first thought was we need a name. Naming your passion and purpose isn’t an easy thing to do. We talked about it every time we were together, but we weren’t getting anywhere.

Finally, on a fall afternoon in a little meeting room at the local library the number 10 was mentioned in conjunction with leadership, and we all said, that has promise. We began to research the number ten.

Here’s what we found:

  1. The Number 10 in Bible is a symbol of perfection, harmony and creation.
  2. Ten is a number of integration, discipline, laws and wholeness.
  3. Ten is an even natural number following nine and preceding eleven. Ten is the base of the decimal numeral system, by far the most common system of denoting numbers in both spoken and written language.
  4. The phrase “God said” is repeated 10 times through Genesis. His Word is reflected in Ten Commandments as well, that symbolize the ultimate law for any person to live by.
  5. We have 4 group sessions and 6 one-on-on coaching sessions for each cohort member, totaling Ten sessions.
  6. Ten people is the maximum number for our cohort.
  7. Ten is the best when being evaluated or graded
  8. The number 10 symbolizes the completion of a cycle.
  9. Ten Talents in Matthew 25…….the completion of God’s investment, we mold/form/teach others to increase their talent.
  10. And, for the numerologists, OCD arithmomania’s, The word “Leadership” has 10 letters

The more we researched the more we knew… we were LEADERSHIPTEN. We had a name!  AND, we had a nickname: L10.

Yes, we had a lot more work to do in turning our vision into reality, but we had a name that inspired us! We were on our way!
